Raising Awareness of HPV-Related Cancers
According to the CDC, based on data from 2014 – 2018, about 46,143 new cases of cancer are associated with HPV in the US each year: 25,719 among women, and 20,424 among men. HPV is associated with 6 types of cancer: cervical, vaginal/vulvar, anal, penile and oral, head and neck.
Strength in Colors 5K brings awareness to these cancers and the ribbon colors they represent. It provides a fun and family-focused platform to offer education, prevention information and support to our community.
All HPV-related cancers are preventable. Screenings, annual exams, education, and the HPV vaccine are all methods of cancer prevention.
Sneakers4Funds Shoe Drive
Hey #SIC5K fans! We’ve added something we think is special to our 5K festivities. We hope you do too. It's another way for you to join us in giving back to underserved communities that are far away and outside of Ohio and the U.S.
The Crawford Crew has partnered with @Sneaker4Funds to host an athletic shoe drive in conjunction with our Strength in Colors 5K and Kids Dash!
The Sneakers4Funds organization collects recycled athletic shoes from all over the United States and those shoes are repurposed by employees of small companies across the world and sold in their respective local communities. Ultimately the entire process helps to provide a living and sustainable income for over 4,000 families worldwide.
We invite you to drop off used and gently worn, and/or new running shoes at our Strength In Colors 5K & Kids Dash on July 31st at McNamara Park. A collection box will be on site and ready to fill. The drive will continue until 11 a.m. and then our volunteers will prepare the shipment to go out on Monday.
Keep these points in mind when collecting shoes to donate:
- If you wouldn’t pass them on to a friend then they might not be used and gently worn or new.
- Shoes must be clean, dry and wearable.
- Please tie or band pairs together.
- Single shoes and non-athletic shoes cannot be accepted.
